Below are 20 photographs that show interesting, diverse plants photographed by me in Seattle. All happen to be non-native, most are garden ornamentals, and a few are garden edible plants. Being a plant expert, I pay attention to wild as well as cultivated plants. In the same way that the current Federal government has opened the southern border to tens of thousands of immigrants, Seattle's natural history has no border control against garden plants invading and settling here. Every individual property owner has the freedom to pull wild plants, or permit them to remain. My book Wild Plants of Greater Seattle, mentions most and illustrates many such plants.
