Seattle Tilth's Demonstration Garden Weed Patch, was initiated on April 2nd, 1982. During October and November of 1985, a new location, larger and more varied in soil types, was made for the patch. On that date 55 different kinds of weeds were present, each with a name tag. As Tilth members and visitors often desired to know more about a given weed than its name and appearance --both pieces of information available at the patch-- the Seattle Tilth Newsletter featured one weed per issue, space permitting. The articles were written by Arthur Lee Jacobson, and illustrated variously, as noted following.

Article word counts range from 142 (Crabgrass) to 930 (Broad Dock/Curly Dock). The final article (100th weed) was in the August 1995 Newsletter. The versions on this website are usually altered and often improved from the newsletter originals, and are not all illustrated, alas (all but a couple are). In my book Wild Plants of Greater Seattle these articles were additionally polished, edited, manipulated and squeezed. Not to mentioned illustrated anew.
