Georgia, the largest State in southeastern North America, has a fascinating diversity of more than 200 native trees. This book is to help identify the native trees and larger shrubs, excepting Hawthorns and most Willows. There are almost 300 text pages providing technical details to distinguish species, many keys, and range maps which show the extent of the native stands. There is no mapping of range extensions due to cultivation, nor more than cursory treatment of even the most abundant, well known exotic species. The best feature is 432 superb color photographs on 80 plates, showing in rare detail leaves, flowers, bark, etc. 12 additional plates of 95 black and white photographs show winter twigs. The book is sturdily bound, hardcover, clearly designed, and will prove useful to students of Georgia's native trees.
